The stewardship and preservation of our stunning natural surroundings are among our guiding principles at Sunriver Resort. For the second year in a row, we will plant one tree for every guest staying with us this Earth Day. The planting ceremony will take place on Arbor Day, April 26th, when we’ll plant 400 Ponderosa bare-root seedlings—300 for guests and 100 donated by the resort— around the Woodlands Golf Course. Sunriver Resort’s sustainability committee will lead the efforts, with resort staff and Sunriver Realty associates in attendance to celebrate the initiative.
The locally sourced Ponderosa Pine seedlings, which have been growing for the last two years, are between 6-12” tall, provided by Sunriver Nature Center & Observatory and Project Ponderosa. Project Ponderosa is a mission-driven nursery dedicated to the restoration of Central Oregon’s iconic ponderosa pines and fostering a collective effort toward environmental conservation.
The Ponderosa Pine is a long-lived evergreen tree native to western North America known for its distinctive orange-brown bark with black crevices and long, slender needles. The trees provide many benefits to the local ecosystem, including improving air and water quality, providing habitat for wildlife, and reducing erosion.
